Something in the Water – Catherine Steadman

A shocking discovery on a honeymoon in paradise changes the lives of a picture-perfect couple in this taut psychological thriller debut.

“Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave? Wonder no longer. It takes an age. However long you think it takes, double that.”

Thus the opening line.. An intriguing intro and I was quickly hooked into this thriller. Interesting characters and moral dilemmas. Me: oh, no, please don’t open the duffle bag!!

It comes highly recommended on Audible, being narrated by the author herself, actress Catherine Steadman, who was indeed very good. This novel was also a Reese Witherspoon book club pick.

I did finish wanting more from the ending. I felt the story could be tied up better. Like there was something else missing. But overall, Something in the Water certainly entertains and I would still recommend the audio book for 11 hours of awesome story telling.

“Sometimes you’re the lamp post, and sometimes you’re the dog.”

“I notice my sudden jump in logic. From making a mistake to actively committing a crime. Just like that. I wonder if that’s how it starts with a lot of criminals…”
