April 2019 Reading List

April reading - the library book and middlesex

My April Reading List. I read some particularly good books this month. Proper book reviews still to come.

Highly recommend picking up Middlesex if you haven’t already read it. Bibliophiles will enjoy The Library Book although the thought of all those books lost.. is enough to make you feel a bit nauseous.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides – It won the Pulitzer prize for fiction in 2003 and has been on my list forever. This book is incredible and now one of my all time favourites.

The Library Book by Susan Orlean – Well researched and well written true story of the tragic fire at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey – Quite accidentally found myself “reading around” Los Angeles when I picked this up. An incredibly good narrative of LA life and culture.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

French Children Don’t Throw Food by Pamela Druckerman – Some non-preachy parenting advice and ideas to easily implement like the “pause” and treating baby like a mini human.

The Winter Soldier by Daniel Mason – proper gritty historical fiction.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman – A retelling of the Norse stories. Now American Gods makes more sense.

The Alice Network by Kate Quinn – Took me a while to get into this one on Audible but it was an enjoyable story.
