World change starts with educated children.
And it’s easy to make a change right now.
Starting with just $2,500 we can teach 50 children to read and write for one year with Room to Read.
Education is something I feel very passionate about – something I believe no child, no matter where they’re born, should live without.
Growing up in New Zealand I was fortunate to have access to an excellent free education. We were able to visit libraries, bookstores and museums. Books were commonplace in our home and reading a part of our daily lives.
I have since lived in Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South Africa. I’ve experienced firsthand the deep need to improve education around the world.
I firmly believe in the power of education to empower people to make change. First we need to fix access. Access to books in communities and homes. Access to quality teachers and basic literacy.
It starts with just one book. One book can change a life.
Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children® Room to Read’s innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income countries. During two time periods that are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education.
Room to Read has benefited 12.4 million children across more than 20,000 communities in 15 countries and aims to reach 15 million children by 2020. Learn more at www.roomtoread.org.
