Something in the Water – Catherine Steadman

A shocking discovery on a honeymoon in paradise changes the lives of a picture-perfect couple in this taut psychological thriller debut, Something in the Water.

“Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave? Wonder no longer. It takes an age. However long you think it takes, double that.”

Thus the opening line. An intriguing introduction indeed and I was quickly hooked into this exciting thriller. Interesting characters and moral dilemmas. Don’t you just love a moral dilemma? Me: nooo please don’t do it, don’t open the duffle bag..

Something in the Water comes highly recommended on Audible. It is narrated by the author herself, actress Catherine Steadman, and I thought she was great. This novel is also a Reese Witherspoon book club pick.

No spoilers here but I did finish wanting more from the ending. I felt the story could be tied up better. Like there was something else missing. But overall, Something in the Water certainly entertains and I would still recommend the audio book for 11 hours of awesome story telling.

“I notice my sudden jump in logic. From making a mistake to actively committing a crime. Just like that. I wonder if that’s how it starts with a lot of criminals…”
